Managing Partner, Andrew Yap is a well respected senior lawyer amongst the legal fraternity in Singapore and the region. Over more than 36 years in practice, Andrew Yap has built up a reputation for being a lawyer with integrity and professionalism, one that clients trust and whom fellow lawyers hold in high regard.
After several years as a legal practitioner, he established the firm Yap & Leong in 1986, which was later renamed as Andrew Yap & Company in 1997. As of 1 April 2015, the firm rebranded to Andrew Yap & John and continues to operate out of its prime City Hall location at 1 Coleman Street.
A lawyer with extensive legal expertise, Andrew Yap’s decades of experience show in his astute ability to represent clients across a variety of legal areas of practice. He has been actively engaged in the legal aspects of corporate and commercial matters including joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions. Andrew also has substantial involvement in commercial and real property transactions, and has advised on several Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) transactions in Singapore. Andrew’s practice area also includes Wills, Probate and Administration of Estates and in advising on personal matters of his private clients.
Extending his sphere of influence beyond Singapore’s borders, Andrew has also advised on international development and turn-key projects involving multi-nationals in other ASEAN nations. He acted as lawyer and legal adviser for the Widjaja Kusuma Group of Indonesia in its US$600 million Power Plant project in Java, a project which brought together PowerGen plc of the United Kingdom, Morrison Knudsen Corporation of the United States, China Machine Building International Corporation of China and financiers Rothschilds amongst others.
In addition to the Widjaja Kusuma Group of Indonesia, Andrew also advises and has acted for amongst others, the Jean Yip Group, the YCH Group, the Arcelor Group, the IndoChine Group, the Italian Trade Commission in Singapore, Blackburne Properties of Western Australia, the Tung Lok Group, Ossia International, Safety Innovators Pte Ltd, Salim Investments Pte Ltd, Tenco Berhad of Malaysia, and the Urban Land Authority of the Government of Victoria, Australia.
Andrew has acted for a number of property developers in Singapore and has also represented most local banks in property related transactions and securitisation. Notably, he was involved in a housing development project worth in excess of S$250 million from its inception to completion and sale of all units. He has considerable experience in handling real estate development, residential and commercial property related matters.
In the area of banking and finance, Andrew has represented the major local banks (DBS, OCBC, UOB) and foreign banks including Maybank, Standard Chartered Bank and The HongKong & Shanghai Banking Corporation relating to mortgages and property financing. He specialises in conveyancing and property law.
Andrew Yap was appointed a Commissioner for Oaths in May 1987 and a Notary Public in April 1996 and continues to hold these appointments to date.
